Next Yoga Nidra Workshop: May 24 – 27, 2010

The Conscious Practice of Deep Relaxation: YOGA NIDRA

“The Sleep of the Yogis”, Yoga Nidra
is both the practice and the state arrived at through this practice.  The journey includes opening and calming of the physical body, cleansing and healing the emotional body, clearing and focusing the mental body, and finally accessing subtler levels, for exploration, liberation, and to effect profound personal change.  We will dive deep into the rich world of utter release. Supports will include Restorative Yoga asanas, gentle hatha movement, meditation, listening partnerships and facilitated discussion.

Yoga Nidra, though noted in yogic literature since at least the 1800s, has only recently become widely discussed in the USA. It is beneficial for anyone, from non-yogis to experienced practitioners of any fitness level or ability. The Yoga Nidra taught is from the Satyananda lineage.

Specific Applications:
* Stress Reduction
* Pain Management
* Whole-Self Wellness
* Spiritual Development
* Heart Conditions
* Anxiety and Depression
* Insomnia
* Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

I hope you will come, and discover for yourself the deepest dimensions of release…

Building on the wonderful success of our first offerings last May and October, I am very happy to announce that I will be able to offer the amazing experience of Yoga Nidra to you again, this time at a three-night Breitenbush Hot Springs Workshop, this coming May 24 – 27.  The most common suggestion I received at the last two 2-night offerings was to “please make it longer!” As we discover how deeply unrelaxed we are, as the layers drop away, we realize that it takes time and focus, and that our souls and bodies are crying for that freedom.

Breitenbush has a gorgeous property in the Cascade Mountains, about 1 hour from Salem: 7 hot pools to choose from, a fabulous steam house, beautiful buildings, and wonderful vegetarian cuisine.  You can see their website at http://www.breitenbush.com/index.html , and my specific listing in their catalogue at  http://www.breitenbush.com/events/may24-27.html.

Registered Nurses,  Licensed Massage Therapists, and possibly other licensed professionals, can arrange to receive a whopping 14 Continuing Education contact hours for the workshop – please contact me for details! (And remember, business expenses are tax-deductible, too!) Registration is through Breitenbush. Register early! Space is limited, and there is also a discount for early registration.

**Samaritan Health Services Employees: You may use your Wellness Benefit for the Tuition portion of this program!!**

For further description of the Yoga Nidra workshop, please click on that page under “Seminars”. The material above is what will be printed in the Breitenbush catalog.

Audio CDs or cassette tapes for home practice will be provided as part of the seminar fee, and copies available for purchase.

Sabbatical Time

Heart & Soul Wellness was born about 7 years ago, and it’s been a sweet and wild ride.  Pulled together from threads of previous businesses, fueled by my becoming a single parent, and  carved with my stubborn insistence on doing only work that I loved, HSW has carried me forward with a growing sense of purpose and identity, and the rewards have been truly heart- and soul-warming, thanks to all my wonderful students and clients.  Meanwhile, my two daughters have become adults, and my own mother has passed onwards, leaving me with an opportunity to rest and renew myself ~ and nothing does that for me better than travel!

So I’ll be taking a sabbatical for 6 months: November 1, 2009, to May 1, 2010, and I’ve got a ticket to Greece!  Along the way I’ll be blogging (see Travel Blog in sidebar), if you’d like to join in, and  please feel free to send me your comments.  In May I’ll be returning to my therapy and private lessons practice in Corvallis, Yoga Nidra workshops at Breitenbush, and other workshops TBA.  Please contact me anytime to arrange for seminars, workshops, etc. for after May 1.

Old Bellydancers Don’t Die ~~

~~ they just shimmy so fine and bright, you can’t see them anymore….

Yes, after 35 years (10 years off for motherhood, etc.) of being a hippydippybellychickee, I am laying down my zills, and taking my movement studies more concertedly into my passions for Yoga and Contact Improvisation.  I will not be trying to rustle up groups for weekly bellydance classes anymore (whew!)!

I may, though, still perform occasionally at The Deli, and am open for proposals of other performance gigs. My favorites include weddings and bridal showers, special feasts and small gatherings. I am also still available for private or semi-private lessons. Something like the old grande dammes of ballet, but I promise not to hit you with my cane!  Shimmy on!!

Email list sign-up

If you would like to be on my HSW email list, please use the “Contact and Registration” form.  I send out notices on new offerings, about quarterly, and do not share my list with others.  Thanks!

Site Redesign!

The Heart and Soul Wellness website has been recreated to use WordPress, a phenomenal open source Content Management System (CMS). While Wordpress is usually used to create blog sites, with a few simple changes, it becomes a CMS. The page you are reading now is the only ‘blog’ part of the site and will be used to communicate what’s new.

Please let us know if there are broken links or other problems.
